I'm currently in the process of writing the script, storyboarding for a gangster film, action/drama/type-of-thing. As it's a short we will hopefuly start filming by the begnining of August, but there are some vital things which we don't know where we could get hold of them from. We need about 10 guns, and atleast 2 of them must produce a 'gun flash', living in the UK, and in a ****** town we haven't a clue where to get some from, could anybody help us? Also one major thing that we are lacking is gang names...i know it must sound stupid but, I can't think of any, without having to make the actors put on stupid voices and turn the film into a comedy.

    well pro films get thier weapons from an amoury (sp?) so try and find one if your budget will stretch to that.

    BB guns - easily found on ebay - look more or less identical to their genuine counterparts.

    This is a fine example...

    Faking muzzle flash is getting easier. With some creative camera angles and editing you could easily achieve what you're after. And remember that good sound FX's are fifty percent of a gun shot. Sound is very important here.

    And as for gang names, what about: The **** ********?

    My film is working on a small budget....at the moment...nothing....we're doing well so far..hehehe.

    I thought about BB guns....a local shop sells them, and I thought about camera trickery, but the main problem is, getting something that looks like a muzel flash if the view of the actual gun is blocked. Doing the sound is easy enough, if I were to use BB guns all I have to do is record one making their wonderful 'pop' noise, and then 'tweak' the sound in one of many programs I have.

    I would love to use blank fire'ers (is that spelt right) but the problem with them is they create a huge noise, and the cost is huge.

    Thanks, I guess I should just experiment with camera techniques...god damnit i can't spell!!

    Your average FPS videogame has a full library of digital gun-sound FX?s hidden in its root folder. I would recommend *borrowing* them.

    i was going to film a movie and i needed weapons, this was a while ago, i rang the head of production at Fox studios australia. he gave me an armourer's phone number, and i gave him a call and he said 'it'd be possible.. tell us what you want and i'll get a student to come out to you and he'll do it for experience'.. the film diddnt end up going ahead, but yeah just make some phone calls.. just try to get stuff without having to pay for it..

    For anyone that might care;

    I've finished my script, and I think how it is it would make a good short film, but I've handed it onto a friend that had the idea for the film (and wanted me to write the script) for him to make changes, mainly to the names of people, but also to make any other changes he thinks suitable (I know this isn't the best thing to do...write a script and give it to someone else who will change it and put their name on it, but my mate isn't like that...I hope)

    I'll keep posting updates on how my short is going, whether anybody cares or not and I might post a small section of the script when its through 'tweaking'.

    Still need ideas for how to do gun flashes for cheap or free, they would be nice, but to be honest they aren't needed now, because of how I've written camera angles, but any help for things like that would be apreciated.

    Um, I'm going to go ahead and recomend airsoft guns.

    Just type 'airsoft' in at google.

    I found a pretty nice way to get shot in the face in a movie, as long as you don't mind the camera being behind the head of the person that gets shot.

    If I can find the video of it, I will post it and explain how I did it. It's very simple and dumb, but I liked it. Oh and the effect in the video clip we have is very flawed in many ways, but it was just to see if we could make it look cool if we tried.
